Julie Mendez
I am a designer, thinker, leader, visionary, and artist. My educational background and military experience allow me to apply strategic thinking and problem solving skills across diverse media and industries. I have a passion for creating thoughtful design solutions that explore the roles and impacts of design in economic, social and ecological terms.
My work is aesthetically and conceptually multifaceted. It serves the traditional fields of design as well as the unconventional frames of visual communication. My design characteristics can be described as rich in texture, rugged, abstract, structured, modern, fresh, elegant, and present.
My personal work is informed by research that explores veterans’ issues and attempts to bridge the communication gap between veterans, civilians, and clinicians. I have volunteered countless hours and gifted her design skills to several non-profit organizations that work toward benefiting military veterans and their families.
My qualifications include a Masters of Fine Art in Design from California College of the Arts in San Francisco, 2011. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Davis in 2008, with a major in Visual Communication and a minor in Chicano/Chicana Studies.
In my spare time you can find me visiting the latest art exhibit, strolling through the flea market looking for hidden treasures, hiking a mountain, reading a tech magazine, or working away at a coffee shop. If all else fails, you will find me in the kitchen cooking Mexican food while enjoying a glass (or two) of Zinfandel wine from my hometown of Lodi, CA.
